In honor of my favorite night in #Hollywood, here is your #AcademyAward winning #BlackHistoryMonth Shout Out of the Day! I missed a day because I spent a day getting caught up in instagraming the Baby Nasims & completely forgot my civic duty! Anyhoo, here are the two ladies that help change Hollywood forever.
In 1939, #HattieMcDaniels became the first #AfricanAmerican to win an Academy Award for #BestSupportingActress in the epic film, #GoneWithTheWind. At the time, #JimCrow laws were still in heavy effect & she wasn’t even allowed to attend the #Atlanta premiere of GWTW. When McDaniels won her #Oscar, she said ” It has made me feel very, very humble; and I shall always hold it as a beacon for anything that I may be able to do in the future. I sincerely hope I shall always be a credit to my race and to the motion picture industry.”
